We now use over 100 million tonnes of plastics per day worldwide, that is 20 times more than 50 years ago and it is important that we contribute as much recycled material as possible to this figure so as to reduce the drastic effect plastic production has on our environment. In the UK alone we use 6.7 million tonnes per annum with 80% of waste still going straight to landfill. Contributing to the reduction of this figure is a priority for us.
The environmental benefits of recycling plastics include reducing carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide emissions. It also reduces overall energy consumption as it takes far less energy to recycle plastics than to produce new material from base level thus reducing the cost of recycled plastic to the end user and again conserving our valuable and massively depleted energy resources.
At our plastic recycling plant the main focus is on hard plastics, (Polyvinyl Chloride/Expanded Polypropylene). These types of plastic are used to make, amongst other products, wheelie bins, pipes, automotive body parts etc.
These materials, once scrapped and sent to landfill are bulky and will not bio degrade like paper or card meaning recycling is the best method of disposal. The material can be collected or delivered from source and once on site, sorted, cleaned and granulated ready for reintroduction into the plastics industry. These granules can be used to make more wheelie bins and pipes, or be used in the manufacture of many different plastic products used widely in the world today.
